looking for the right preposition: claim authority *for* political representations?
What is the right preposition? I want to talk about leaders who "claim authority for political representations," i.e. want to be accepted as having the legitimate authority to represent others; but I'm not quite sure about the 'for'.

The preposition isn't great, but I think a bigger problem is that "representations" doesn't mean what you seem to want it to.
