I'm looking to find a similar resonance to words like "kleptomaniac" and "pyromaniac". A word not only showing obsession but also how it is a mental disorder.

Example: He is obsessed with destruction, so he is a __________.

  • Many dictionaries give a definition of "wrecker" as someone who ruins or destroys. I deleted my answer as your question title asks for the "mental obsession", but the blank in your example sentence seems to call for one who destroys or likes destroying.

  • Since klepto and pyro are both of Greek derivation, then I suggest 'catastromaniac' from καταστροφε katastrophe meaning 'destruction.

  • Can you explain in a little more detail what you mean? Specifically, obsessed with destruction in what sense? I can imagine using that phrase with very different connotations: for a little kid who goes around knocking down block towers and emptying drawers, a college student who reads everything they can find on war and disasters, a toxic personality who constantly undermines the relationships and self esteem of everyone in their vicinity, etc. but I don't think you'd probably use the same label for all those individuals.
