What does informed consensus mean?

1

I came across the phrase informed consensus while watching Peaky blinders TV series and wondering what does that mean?
Here's a short dialog:

- He researches his enemies that's why he's been chosen
- Chosen by whom?
- By an informed consensus.

It's clearly punning on the common phrase "informed consent" (important to human research, medical practice, etc.), but I must admit that I don't get the joke. (Maybe it will make more sense to someone who knows something about the show.)

I would bet it's either a pun or malapropism written by the scriptwriiter. Informed consent is a common term.

  • Did you check the spelling, sometimes subtitles on YouTube are imperfect... can you provide a link to the actual dialogue/sketch?

  • @Mari-LouA I watch it on Netflix, and you can find that dialog here on official website. peaky-blinders.wikia.com/wiki/Irene_O%E2%80%99Donnell
