ssh-agent not launched but key is cached

0

I'm using linux(v14) and when machine is started ssh-add -l gives The agent has no identities. Then I check if process ssh-agent is launched with ps -aux | grep ssh-agent it clearly isn't.

Then I add key into ssh-agent with ssh-add, check if key is added with ssh-add -l (it clearly is) and after that I check if process ssh-agent is launched(ps aux | grep ssh-agent) but it isn't. I'm little confused, If ssh-agent is not launched where does it cache the key?

Can you be more specific than "linux(v14)"? some desktops integrate their own ssh-agent (e.g. Gnome's gnome-keyring)

Please run ps -f -p${SSH_AGENT_PID} for us, as steeldriver says, some desktop environments give you (occasionally questionable) substitutes for ssh-agent.

  • there is nothing in SSH_AGENT_PID but I have a process named gnome-keyring-daemon . Its ubuntu 14.04 unity enrivonment.
