Recently I came across a question, that is to report the sentence "what a beautiful child" there were 2 options .1.he exclaimed that it was a beautiful child. 2 .he exclaimed that the child was beautiful. The book said that option 1 is correct. There is no proper explanation in it.then I referred some books and what I understood is that we just need to convert the exclamatary sentence into a statement.then both the options should be correct. I couldn't find anything wrong in the second statement.please help
