Modem hangup when running script with with nohup, but not otherwise

I have script A which launches script B managing the modem. Script A is launched at boot with nohup:

nohup /path/script_B.sh 0<&- &>/dev/null &

After this, the modem fails with SIGHUP.

Same thing happens if I remove script A from init.d and launch it by myself.

If I instead launch script B by myself, the modem does not fail and everything works.

daemon.info pppd[396]: CHAP authentication succeeded
daemon.notice pppd[396]: CHAP authentication succeeded
daemon.debug pppd[396]: sent [IPCP ConfReq id=0x1 <addr 0.0.0.0> <ms-dns1 0.0.0.0> <ms-dns2 0.0.0.0>]
daemon.info pppd[396]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
daemon.notice pppd[396]: Modem hangup
daemon.notice pppd[396]: Connection terminated.
