Is there a style guideline for the maximum number of clauses in a sentence?

Do any of the major style guides make recommendations for the maximum number of clauses in a sentence? Or does this need to be done on a case-by-case basis?
Based on my understanding the following sentence is grammatically correct, but not considered good style:
He likes to play basketball, and they take classes at the local college, and she spends time reading while her brother watches television because he loves sports that are played in Europe.

According to this article, the longest sentence recorded is "Jonathan Coe’s The Rotter’s Club, which ends with a 33-page-long, 13,955 word sentence." So, yours seems quite fine. There is certainly no rule—it's just a matter of style.
